Stop Tap Replacement for 100+ Flats

Seamless replacements with precision, safety, and minimal disruption

Project Snapshot

We were tasked with replacing the stop taps for an entire apartment block containing over 100 flats. This was a large-scale project requiring careful planning to ensure minimal disruption to residents. Instead of carrying out a full system shutdown, which would have left the entire building without water for extended periods, we developed a more efficient and resident-friendly approach.

The Challenge

Traditional stop tap replacement in large residential buildings usually involves shutting off the main water supply for the whole block. In this case, with over 100 occupied flats, that would have caused significant inconvenience, frustration, and potential complaints from residents. Coordinating with every flat owner for a complete shutdown was not practical and would have delayed the project considerably.

The challenge was clear: replace all the necessary stop taps while keeping water disruption to an absolute minimum.

Our Solution

To meet the challenge, we rented and deployed a specialist pipe-freezing machine. This allowed us to freeze individual pipe sections and isolate each stop tap one at a time, without shutting off the entire water system.

This method provided several key advantages:

  • Zero disruption to unaffected flats — only the unit with the frozen section experienced a temporary pause.

  • Time efficiency — our engineers could move quickly from one tap to the next without coordinating large-scale shutoffs.

  • Resident satisfaction — tenants appreciated that their water supply was maintained throughout the project.

The result was a seamless, professional replacement of the stop taps across the building with minimal downtime and disruption. This project demonstrated how using the right tools and planning can transform a potentially disruptive job into a smooth, resident-friendly operation.
